Jeffrey Jaye

Jeffrey has been a photographer all his life: weddings, portraits, fashion etc, the standard fare for most professionals. However, in 2003 he decided he had finally had enough of working on other people's projects and festivities and took the rather risky step of trying to sell his own studies to galleries. Unlike the USA, where photography has long been recognised as an art form, it has been slow to take off in this country, but has become a growing trend.

Jeffrey walked unannounced into this gallery one morning and asked if we would take a look at his portfolio. He had been doing the rounds of local retailers, but was becoming disheartened by their responses, ranging from lack of interest to downright rudeness. We had already had some success in selling black & white photographs alongside our antique stock, Jeffrey's were completely different. His individual style set him apart from others, but he also seemed to have an eye with which few are blessed. Anyway, the photographs in his portfolio were beautiful but not something commercially viable for this gallery. However, it was suggested that should he find the time, we would consider any local scenes he could do.

As he came from the other side of London, and had no knowledge whatsoever of this area, we doubted that he would be back. But, six weeks later, in he came with six stunning views, all of which were purchased on the spot. Four of them were sold two days later.

That was the start of a very close association between Jeffrey and this gallery, and once he was introduced to an agent, things really started to take off for him, with his work being sold in quality outlets throughout London and beyond. Very few photographers can make a living selling through gallery outlets, so this speaks volumes for the talent and determination of this superb artist.

His portfolio is now huge and seems to grow by the week. We hope you will enjoy browsing through the images on the website, any of which can be ordered in person or on the telephone. All are strictly limited to editions of 150 or 250 worldwide.
